The other day, I was browsing on a social media website and I read one of those blogs that had a list of the top five most powerful passports in the world. The power was decided on the basis of how many countries would allow a visa-free visit or a visa on arrival service to the passport holders. India was not in the top five. So, I started reading more on it.
I got to know that most of the data published were directing towards one Henley Passport Index. Then I got to know that the passport was published every year and as per the 2019 rankings, India was on the 86th on the list. I was not really happy about reading this. So, I reached out to my friend Nitin who runs a visa consulting firm. I thought India is a big economy. There must be countries that allow Indians without a visa or with a visa-on-arrival service.
Nitin gave me a list of countries that allowed Indians for a visa-free visit or with visa-on-arrival. I was delighted. Mind well, these countries don’t have conditional requirements like a Schengen visa or a USA visa before you visit them. If you have a valid Indian passport, you can visit these countries. Here are the top five countries from that list:
Fiji is a group of islands near New Zealand that has had a very deep connection with India and Indians. The moment I got to know that I can visit Fiji without an extra visa process, Fiji became the top destination for my next vacation. Indians started visiting Fiji as labourers in sugarcane fields as early as 1896. Since then, Indians have been a part of the administration and the community of Fiji. The country has a beautiful landscape and is worth a visit for every Indian passport holder. You are allowed to stay in Fiji for as long as four months. This makes it an ideal global destination for a long vacation!
In 2017, the Indonesian government increased the depth of their friendly relations with India by removing a visa requirement. Although you won’t need a visa, the duration available is only 30 days and that too specifically for tourism purposes.
If Fiji seems a bit distant to you, you have the option of going to the Maldives. The Maldives gives unrestricted access to Indian passport holders who are allowed to visit and stay in the country for up to 90 days. The island nation is a bit distant in relation to Sri Lanka. The climate in the country is usually very pleasant and ideal for a vacation visit.
If you seek a naturally welcoming island that has great climate round the clock, sandy beaches and world’s third-largest coral reef along with a very friendly attitude towards the Indian passport – you should visit Mauritius. The island nation has been one of the favourite destinations for Indians, especially because of its climate.
Finally – Qatar is the only country from the Middle East that gives Indians the option to go visa-free for a period of 30 days. This development took place exactly a month after Indonesia made its announcement of giving Indians an entry without a visa. You will find a ton of Indians working in Qatar in the construction, retail and investment businesses.
If you are wondering how you can have an international holiday with an Indian passport, without having to go through the hassles of visas and very expensive air tickets, these are the destinations you should consider. If you already have USA visa or a Schengen visa stamped on your passport, you will have several other countries ready to offer you a visa on arrival.
