Types of Diabetes

Diabetes is of two types –

  • Type 1
  • And Type 2

Type 1 diabetes is caused due to an auto-immune reaction of the body, where the cells that produce insulin are wrongly attacked by our body’s immune system. Only 10% of all people are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is what the major concern is. Close to 90% of all people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, where their body cannot respond to insulin.

  • Around 463 million adults between the age of 20 and 79 were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • 79% of diabetes patients belong to the low and middle-income level groups
  • Diabetes has also proven to be lethal to over 4.2 million people
  • 374 million people are at the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
