I Keep My Kitchen Clean, And Here Is Why You Should Too

Read For Me

As a full-time homemaker and a mother of two, I end up spending most of my time in the kitchen. I am fond of my kitchen like any other homemaker and have invested much time and a considerable amount of money to ensure it is designed elegantly yet being functional. However, all that effort would go in vain if I don’t keep my kitchen clean.

Even though it is tough to ensure that it is free of pest and every nook and corner of my kitchen is clean, I make sure I spend a considerable amount of time each day for kitchen cleaning. I even hire pest control services periodically that ensure no pests make my kitchen their breeding ground.

A dirty and cluttered kitchen not only looks uninviting but also carries with it many health hazards. I have developed a kitchen cleaning routine that I stick by to keep my kitchen clean and hygienic.

Here are some kitchen cleaning tips:

Wash Dishes Daily

I wash the used dishes daily after every meal to ensure there is no fungal or bacterial build-up. If the used dishes are allowed to remain in the kitchen, they attract pests like a magnet would attract an iron nail. Use kitchen cleaning agents to wash your dishes daily.

Keep The Sink Always Clean

The sink in your kitchen must always be kept clean as its vent is connected to other pipes in the network. A dirty sink would invite pests and insects from the extended pipe network in your building or the neighboring areas. Pour in hot water at times to ensure the sink pipe doesn’t get clogged with the stale food-remains from used dishes.

Clean the Countertops

The countertops must be kept clean. This is where you do all the cutting of vegetables and mixing of different spices. You don’t want dirt to get mixed with the food you prepare. Wipe the countertop with a kitchen cleaning agent after you put away all the ingredients once you are done with cooking.

Clean Kitchen Floor

Cleaning the floor of the kitchen at the end of the day or after your dinner may seem tiring but is a rewarding choice. Any bits and crumbs of food left on the floor would surely attract unwanted rodents and pests that can make your life miserable. I have struggled with rats in my kitchen in the past and know how difficult it is for a homemaker to cook with a rat in proximity. It is both disturbing and unhygienic.

Monthly kitchen cleaning includes:

Using the solution of baking soda, salt and vinegar to pour down the sink pipe can help unclog and clean it. Even if it is not clogged, doing this would prevent clogging.

The windows in the kitchen must be cleaned at least once a month and the curtains, if any, must be changed or cleaned.

The cabinets in the kitchen require deep cleaning as everything needs to be taken out, cleaned, and restored. It takes time but is worth the effort because you cannot take chances with your food.

My half-yearly cleaning routine includes:

You can do deep cleaning of your kitchen by emptying the kitchen and using the cleaning agents and disinfectants to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. When my maid is not around to help me out, I use deep cleaning services to help me with kitchen cleaning. Generally, it takes a day or two for them to clean my entire kitchen. But at the end of it all, my job to clean the kitchen for the rest of the year decreases significantly.

I prefer calling the deep cleaning services around Diwali or just before the year ends.

In Conclusion

A healthy and hygienic kitchen is essential, and while it does get a bit tiring at times, I know well it’s my family’s health that is at stake here. So I cannot take chances with my family’s health or mine. You can follow the above kitchen cleaning tips too to keep your kitchen spick and span.
