3 Common RC Transfer Mistakes to Avoid

Selling a used car in today’s market is not a complex process. You have several websites available that readily give you all the information you may need. And, you also have access to several seller friendly businesses that help you sell your car, almost instantly. That said, if you are ignorant and don’t conduct your research thoroughly, you can make this seemingly simple process as complicated and painstaking as you want.

I recently sold my old car. I had taken care of the car servicing for the entire period I owned it. I also took it for a car wash, right before the day the buyer was about to come and see it. On top of all of these – I ensured I had all the documents ready. There is no point in prepping your car, if you don’t have the right documents in hand. The RC transfer is more important for you as a seller, then it might be for a buyer. Primarily, because you are transferring an asset and the authorities should know you are not responsible for it anymore.

The RC will let the authorities know that your vehicle has the legal permit to be on the roads. And the RC transfer will let them know that the ownership, and hence all the liabilities as well as rewards of owning the car, have also been transferred. So, before you bid your beloved car a final goodbye, make sure you have covered these common mistakes people make during RC transfers:

Mistakes to avoid during RC transfer

The first time I sold my used car, the process related to RC transfer seemed endless. The lack of information related to such transfer and the mistakes only prolonged the process. Therefore, there are certain mistakes which everyone should avoid during an RC transfer. Some of these mistakes are:

1. Avoid any spelling mistakes-

Transfer of the ownership of car requires filling of certain forms with the appropriate authorities. The procedure is mandated by law, and its purpose is to make the government aware of the change in ownership. However, one should be careful while filling the requisite information in the form. Avoid making any spelling mistakes in your name and other related heads. If a wrong name or number is processed once you have to again go through the whole process.

2. Attach the NOC-

While filing for an RC transfer it is important that you attach the NOC with it. No objection certificate (NOC) is issued by the RTO with which the vehicle is initially registered. It is proof as to the fact that there are no liabilities attached with the vehicle. While granting a NOC the RTO considers unpaid fines or taxes. You might be required to pay any pending challan for getting the NOC. Without a NOC from the RTO, your application for RC transfer might be rejected.

3. Attach the relevant documents-

The RC transfer form needs to be accompanied with the relevant information of the seller and buyer. This includes self-attested photographs, residential address and PAN card of the seller. The form should also be accompanied by a sale affidavit containing the information of the buyer. Non-compliance may result in rejection.
