With the government planning to achieve complete electric mobility in India in the upcoming years, all major automobile manufacturers have prepped themselves up for the transition. If the teasers of Auto Expo 2020, scheduled to take place in Greater Noida from 7th February to 12th February, is anything to go by, a number of electric cars are awaiting to be launched in the country during the impending year. Let’s have a look at some of the top options that you should watch out for:
One of the best-selling cars from Maruti Suzuki since more than a decade, Wagon R needs no introduction to the Indian consumers. Now, the company is planning to launch an affordable electric car, based on the Wagon R model, in 2020. As per the information, the car will be completely made in India and should be able to offer a range of 200 kms on a fully charged battery.
With Mahindra’s baby EV e2o being banned due to safety regulations in the country, the company is planning to launch eKUV100 as its most affordable electric hatchback car. The mini e-SUV is expected to come with a 40 kW motor, 15.9 kWh battery which can provide a range of up to 120 kms on a single charge. The numbers may not blow your mind, but the car promises to serve as a robust option for small families to roam around within the city.
Gratified with the sales of MG Hector in India, the British automobile manufacturer is now planning to launch an electric SUV named eZS in the upcoming year. It will come with a massive 45 kWh battery and 148hp motor driving power to provide an experience that the SUV users usually ask for. Considering its power and features, the expected price of Rs. 25 lakh for this e-SUV from Morris Garages seems like a steal.
Tata displayed this concept at the Geneva Motor Show held earlier this year and the car should be ready for a launch in 2020. This car – to be launched in the premium hatchback segment – is expected to give a tough fight to the options mentioned above, mainly due to its aggressive pricing, stylish looks, and power-packed features. This EV is expected to provide a range of 250 to 300 kms with fast charging facility of up to 80% in one hour.
After some affordable EV options, now comes the first luxury car in the list. Audi e-tron can blow your mind away with its looks, power, and driving comfortability. Expected to boast a 95 kWh battery promising a range of 400 kms and an output of 408hp, the car is expected to be priced some where around Rs. 1.5 crore in India.
Apart from the above-mentioned options, there are speculations about the entry of some of the world’s most popular electric cars in India such as Nissan Leaf, Renault KZe, Mercedes Benz eQC etc. All in all, the forthcoming year promises to be an exciting affair as far as the car enthusiasts in India are concerned.9
